Have fifty rings available. Preclose 12 of them.
Here BA 12swg (2.4mm) x 1/4" rings at an AR of ~2.75 were used. Other tested and working sizes are BA 14swg (2.0mm) x 5.25mm, or BA 16swg (1.6mm) x #19 (4.17mm), or BA 18swg (1.2mm) x 1/8", or BA 19swg (1.0mm) x #37 (2.62mm) - in 20awg (0.8mm) #44 or 11/128" mandrels should work, but end in a slightly floppy result that needs some more filler rings. Low AR limit is about 2.70, that is already a bit difficult to weave, and doesn't even need fillers for gaining rigidity. So just adjust for different springback, to be above AR 2.7, but not too much. But now let's start.
Have fifty rings available. Preclose 12 of them.
Build a 'starfish' core from six of the preclosed rings, with five fresh rings.
Connect the outer rings to build a pentagon.
Add further five preclosed rings with fresh rings to the corners.
Connect these to the neighboring 'old' corner rings.
Sew the 'new' corners up to a circle.
Add a fifth ring to one of the new corner rings, plus the 12th preclosed one.
Complete three further corner rings, always going also through the last preclosed one, and just wait with setting the final one.
If your rings are at the high end of AR range, so the ball feels wobbly, add up to about five (best preclosed) rings, into the ball's hollow, like feeding the piggy-bank. It's a bit difficult, but up to five will fit. If your rings are at the lower end of useable AR range these fillers are unnecessary, but at the upper end of AR range they help to maintain the ball's shape. If your AR is even higher, it will be needed to add even more fillers, or something else like a marble to fill the hollow.
Then sew up with the final ring.
Use the last remaining preclosed ring, plus two yet unwoven ones, to attach a keyring.
